About the Diocese of Härnösand and property management

The Diocese of Härnösand is part of the Church of Sweden with the mission to promote and supervise parish life. The diocese comprises 100 parishes in the regions of Jämtland, Härjedalen, Medelpad, and Ångermanland. The diocesan organization, with its office in Härnösand, has about 50 employees with a variety of professional competencies.

The land managed by the Church of Sweden is collectively referred to as clergy salary assets, making the Church of Sweden one of Sweden's largest landowners. For the Diocese of Härnösand, this primarily involves forestry, but also agriculture and asset management. The clergy salary assets are a separate legal entity that owns itself and operates in a foundation-like form. The assets include approximately 94,500 hectares of land, of which about 70,300 hectares are productive forest land. The clergy salary assets should contribute to the economic conditions for the church's preaching. They should be placed in an acceptable manner and managed as efficiently as possible to provide the best possible sustainable total return. The management should be conducted in an ethically defensible manner in accordance with the church's fundamental values.
